London - last night

  • Did anyone go to the gig in ULU last night?

I went and it was awesome, really hot though!

Got a few questions about the show though...

What is the song "hey du" about? Obviously I'm awful at german so have no idea.

Was the song that Bernd sang "Schlect"?

Thought it was a great gig and can't wait to see them play again. Glad they did a few older songs. Some really good covers as well.

  • Hey there!

I've been there, too, and it was a great concert, although you're right, it was incredibly hot! Luckily, the security guys were handing out water quite constantly... I've probably never been that sweaty ever before in my life ;)

"Hey Du" is a Cover of a famous German (or rather Berlin) musical called "Linie 1". In this musical a girl named Maria sings this song to another girl (I can't remember her name) that she notices is crying on the subway (I think it was because her boyfriend just broke up with her or something like that, if I remember correctly, but I'm not quite sure...) Trying to cheer her up and to comfort her, Maria tells the girl her very own (sad) life story, how she's always been unwanted and unloved by her mother (an alcoholic) and by anyone else (because of her looks and her clumsiness), that she's left with no one to turn to, no family, no friends, no hope for the future, trying to show the girl that her sadness will pass (due to her beauty), compared to her, i.d. Maria's, very own sadness.

The Song Bernd sang was "Frieda und die Bomben". It's a song that the Beatsteaks did together with the German punk band Turbostaat.

  • Cool, interesting to hear what Hey Du was about...I assumed it was an original by the Beatsteaks.

There were a few parts in the gig that I was lost due to them speaking in German but I think the majority of the audience understood.

Did anyone see Bernd get hit with the water bottle? Good shot whoever it was! It was that hot he probably didn't mind!

Hopefully there'll be some photos of the gig soon.

I've seen that and I think that he wasn't pleased at all by this sudden refreshment. Good shot, huh? I don't know. That was one of the bad moments of the night, in my opinion. Quite a stupid (and unnecessary) thing to do, almost as stupid (and unnecessary) as trying to grab Arnim's hat. Not funny at all, if you ask me. And I don't mind being called a bore for that way of thinking, I maintain my ground ;) The crew was quite busy trying to clean up the floor and to protect the guitar pedals/equipment/whatever-it-is-called from getting (too) wet and damaged. I'm sure that there was no harm meant, but I think it was stupid anyway. But well, I don't want to make a fuss about it, Bernd didn't either, so I think there was not too much damage done - fortunately.

  • I agree, I don't think Arnim was very happy when someone took his hat.

Bernd didn't seem to mind getting hit but I don't know why anyone would throw a bottle at him. The stage divers kept standing on his guitar stuff though which seemed to worry his guitar technician.

Hopefully they'll come back to the UK soon.

  • and they are coming back soon! :)
